Therapist & Counselor in Silver Lake, CA

“If being hard on yourself worked, it would’ve already worked.”

- Anna Nouzovsky, Ph.D.

Reaching out for therapy usually means something in your life needs care. It’s okay not to know exactly what that is or how to address it before we start. I’m Toby Barron, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #89672) and counselor offering compassionate, trauma-informed therapy in Silver Lake. My office is a grounded, nonjudgmental space where we can talk openly about what’s bugging you and ultimately make a plan to work on it.

Most people don’t come to therapy because they’re in crisis. They come because something inside feels tangled, heavy, or quietly unresolved. Maybe certain patterns keep showing up in your relationships. Maybe your nervous system feels stuck on high alert. Maybe you just know there’s more to understand about yourself than you’ve had space for so far.

A Safe Place Where Understanding Comes Before Fixing

I work from a warm, human, curious place. Therapy tends to work best when there’s shared curiosity between client and therapist. As a client, being able to ask questions and not have all the answers right away can set a genuinely helpful tone. A relaxed, comfortable rapport doesn’t just make the process more pleasant. It tends to make it more productive.

From that place of curiosity, we work with practical tools drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR to help you understand and regulate your nervous system. Once we figure out what actually helps you manage your emotions, your relationships typically have more room to grow and heal.

Therapy isn’t about becoming a different person. It’s about understanding yourself more deeply, noticing and meeting your own needs, processing what you’ve been through, and making room for growth.

I Offer Both In-Person and Online Therapy in Los Angeles and Burbank.

I primarily work with LGBTQIA+ individuals, offering gender-affirming therapy for people exploring identity, navigating relationships, or coming out. I also provide affirming support for HIV/AIDS, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.

Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, especially with a strong therapeutic relationship. I offer telehealth for adults and couples throughout California, alongside in-person sessions in Silver Lake.

Yes. Sessions are confidential and follow the ethical and legal standards required of licensed mental health professionals, with a few legal exceptions related to safety. We can always discuss those exceptions openly.

It depends on your goals. Some clients come for short-term, focused support around a specific issue, while others stay longer for deeper personal growth. We check in regularly and adjust as needed.

I don’t bill insurance plans directly, but I provide a superbill you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I’m happy to walk you through what to ask your provider.
